The wheels of progress never stop turning. Even now, in our everyday life we can enjoy the technology that just few years ago could only be encountered in science fiction films. The development of computer technology, cellular communication, electronic control systems, greatly simplifies our lives by allowing us to be more flexible and mobile, to adjust to this modern, fast-paced way of living. As computer systems become more complex, more effort is put into trying to make multi-functional and portable devices, easily accessible, intuitive, simple and comfortable for everyone.

The use of contactless technology in the gaming industry, results in the apparition of new control systems, complementing (and sometimes completely replacing) standard game pads. They allow the users to replace their push joysticks, with control systems based on vision, voice and motion. The most well-known and universally popular game systems of such kind are Eyetoy and Kinect.

Contactless technologies are not only used in the gaming industry and scientific projects. Many of them are quite successfully applied in the military sector; in peace times they serve for education and training, and in combat operations for non-contact control of remote equipment; eye tracking or measuring eye movements and the point of gaze, augmented reality systems.

Promising researches are conducted in the field of contactless technology, which are currently in development, technical diagram or design stage. There are those that are already developed and undergo tests, upgrades and improvements in various areas of our lives. Some are used successfully for the past several years. But there are projects that have completely changed many people’s lives. First of all, they have helped those with physical or speech disabilities, motor function troubles, musculoskeletal or vestibular apparatus injuries.

None of us can imagine our lives without communication and movement. They both give people the opportunity to learn and share knowledge with each other, to work and accumulate experience, to share their moods and emotions, to inform others about events, and to express their own opinions. Without gestures, facial expressions, and speech, people would cease to understand each other, and communication would be very difficult.

Literally, the term eye tracking (sometimes known by the name gaze tracking) means following an eye. It is a process during which specific devices determine the position of the patient's eyeballs. Depending on where the eye is directed, the system calculates the angle of view, and thus makes it possible to determine which of several objects a person looks at. Devices used for this purpose are called eye trackers.

For many years, the situation on the market of technologically sophisticated eye-tracking devices is not in favor of the final user. The cost of a nurse or a specialized assistant, which will help the paralyzed patient to communicate with the outside world, is high enough, but keeping him in a specialized clinic or purchase an eye-tracking system for home use will be many times more expensive. Everyone cannot afford this, and combined with a costly course of treatment and rehabilitation, it becomes even less affordable. As a result, patients are forced to suffer without communication, which introduces additional negative aspects to the disease due to frequent stress and forced isolation.

It is an undeniable fact: A full and healthy life is extremely important for everyone. But, unfortunately, no one is immune to diseases and conditions that can severely limit mobility. This can be caused by different joint injuries, post-stroke states, paralysis, and mental illnesses. The majority of people are exposed to such risks due to heredity, aging, habits, stress, poor diet, sleep and waking schedule, and many other reasons. Even for perfectly healthy people, there is a considerable risk of accidents or other emergencies that can cause an irreparable damage to health.
